Haye and Chisora could receive lifetime bans after Munich brawl

David HayeBritish Boxing Board of Control General Secretary Robert Smith has not ruled out the possibility of life bans for shamed boxers David Haye and Dereck Chisora following their brawl in Munich. The two clashed in the press conference following Chisora’s points defeat at the hands of WBC champion Vitali Klitschko.

The sport has been quick to condemn the incident, and Smith says the punishment for the duo could be severe. He said “It’s a possibility. They could fine, they could suspend, they could withdraw a licence, they have many powers.”

The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) said a misconduct investigation had been opened into Chisora’s “behaviour…prior, during and after” the Klitschko fight. “A further statement will be issued once the stewards have decided on what action will be taken,” the BBBofC said. They added “With regard to Mr David Haye, Mr Haye is not a licensed boxer with the British Boxing Board of Control and therefore no longer under our jurisdiction.”

Although Haye has retired from the sport, the board could choose to effectively ban him by denying him a licence if he seeks to fight again. But there is not doubt that the fight would draw a lot of interest from fans
